Beach Shorts is a different kind of anthology than what we've done in the past, but it still has the spec pub soul resonating in it's summer vibe. It's absolutely perfect to bring along on your Memorial Day weekend, whether it's poolside, beach front, camping, cook out or just chilling at home. It's fun, easy reading that you can set down while you mix a margarita, and pick up again for a great new story of summer love and laughs.
Get Ready for Beach Shorts, by Editor Susan Tulio
As spring turns to summer and the temperatures warm, many of us start to build our summer reading collection.
Cry Baby Bridge is open for submissions
It's been five whole years since we released our very first collection of utter speculation. Since then everything has changed, not in the least being that our little workshop of friends has turned into an indie publisher, and our collections of utter speculation are now filled with stories by amazing authors from all over the... Cry Cry Baby, a special book for our fifth collection of utter speculation
We've expanded out from the collections of utter speculation since then, but we always return home to speculate utterly, and this year marks our fifth year doing so, so we've gone back over our collections and discussed some of our favorite things about each one, and decided on a topic that really gives our authors room to show off their skills.
Work in Progress, Spec Pub’s Story Crafting Workbook is here
When you start out as a workshop called "Writers Block" you come up with a lot of methods for getting a story on the page. River Eno, Susan Tulio and I have struggled our way through four collections of utter speculation, starting with Roanoke where we had no idea what we were doing.
It’s almost time to speculate again…
And we're heading back to our spooky roots. Details coming soon. Word count will be somewhere between 2000 and 8000 if you wanna get started.
February Finally Ends After Four Years
've never been a fan of this second month of the year, but I've tried to find ways to mitigate it. I've leaned in, leaned out, hunkered down and gotten out of town. . .But March is forthcoming, at last, and with it some fun news.

Out of the Darkness Anthology now available, including my original short story
This great collection has dropped this week with some really fantastic stories from from really fantastic authors. It is a collection of pain and perseverance, of people who struggle a little to close to the edge of total despair. Editor Carol Hightshoe did a great job curating this book to show the expanse of darkness in the human spirit, with stories that are solidly possible and others speculative and magical.
My 2022 Year in Review.
This has been a weird year with a lot of ups and downs.
