I’ve never been a fan of this second month of the year, but I’ve tried to find ways to mitigate it. I’ve leaned in, leaned out, hunkered down and gotten out of town. Seasonal Depression, Regular depression, life shit and cold just roll together to make it a short month of suck. It is no wonder the Romans stole days from February to make their name-sake months longer. I think I recall one February five or six years ago that was actually surprisingly easy and pleasant but otherwise it’s always worse than I hoped for.
This year should have been good. We took a week away in Sunny California, but while we were there we got a call that a beloved family member passed away unexpectedly.
There has been a lot since then.
But March is forthcoming, at last, and with it some fun news. The editors of Spec Pub have been working on a project for quite a while and it’s finally ready to bloom out into the world.
Work in Progress is a story crafting notebook the we created for ourselves, to help us brainstorm, plot, develop and keep track of notes for our various novel and projects. It has author-tested tools and tricks to help jump start Writers Block and develop 3-D characters. Full of lists, exercises and lots of space to expand on anything the author needs extra space for, I’ve already started using my proof copy to help me with a fantasy novel I’ve been struggling with, and I am planning on using more.
Work in Progress Workbook will be out in early March, around the time that Beach Shorts subs close and we start reviewing those.
We’ll also be announcing the subject for the next Collection of Utter Speculation very soon, so things are moving at last after a long long period of stagnation.
As for my own personal work, I have received some real disappointments so far this year, but I have a lot more work out and a lot more works in progress, so I hope to have some very good news to share shortly.
In the mean time, I hope I will be able to share some great work from other authors with very soon.
