When Madeline’s car breaks down on an old bridge, she becomes haunted by a baby’s cry. Struggling to determine what is real, and what are merely echoes from her past, she resolves to free herself at all costs.
What are you reading right now?
I am currently reading A Man Called Ove, by Fredrik Backman.
books/short stories/poems/publishing projects you have out in the world now.
I just released my debut book, Revenge Arc, which is available from Archive of the Odd and GODLESS.
Did you grow up with a cry baby bridge legend? Is it something that affected you or was it a new story for you?
A little of both! I’ve always been interested in local legends, and had heard of these bridges in the US all my life. Last year, when doing urban legend research for a different project, I found out how close I had grown up to one of the Cry Baby Bridges, and after a brief visit I felt compelled to write a story.
Why do you think this legend is so pervasive? What truth do you think is behind it?
Bridges, symbolically, are so poignant, and being on one is an incredibly atmospheric experience. I think the legend is pervasive because anyone who has bothered to go stand on an allegedly haunted bridge has probably felt something. I know it was most certainly an unsettling experience for me, even if I never heard a baby crying.
What other projects are you working on? Where can we look for you next?
You can find some of my work in the October Screams, coming this October from Kangas Kahn Publishing. I also have a novelette coming in Dark Blooms, a coming of age horror anthology put together by Ruth Anna Evans.
My next novella, The Lorekeeper, has been picked up by D&T Publishing.
I’m currently working on editing my next manuscript to query, and news of that (and any other future projects) can always be found on my website.
